Tried to install Yosemite on my Mac mini last night. It froze on the progress bar on restart. There ensued three hours of trying to figure out how to get out of that, force restart, try again and finally very slowly finding a way to backpedal into Mavericks. At least I wasn't doing it in my MacBook Air which has all my work in it. That was a bit of a waste of an evening...

If your Mini cannot run Mavericks it won't be able to run Yosemeetee (I think they pronounce it a bit like that) either. Will wait a few days before trying the update again, collecting data points on what may be going on in the meantime, whether it is rogue kernel extensions or something else (apparently the behaviour I ran into appears when you have stuff in /usr/local and I had a pile of stuff from Mac Fuse, includes and libraries). We'll see. I'm not in a hurry and if a couple of features might be useful, it can wait till the dust settles. And certainly not updating my laptop until I see Yos running on the mini without glitches (I need the laptop more for my lessons, esp. away).
