That was a good party. That was a really good party. Tinged with a bit of melancholy, missing the people who weren't there and the one in particular who never will be there again but never left.

As I sat to write this, it was a dark and stormy night. Now, it was only 4:20 pm. I could live in this island a hundred years and not get used to the short days of winter, it suddenly being pitch black night in the middle of the afternoon.

The week end was good. Some bits of it were rather very good, in fact.

On Friday some of my pupils met, as they do once a month, at the Café Rustique in Tufnell Park to play together. From there I rushed to The Forum to see New Model Army do their by now traditional Christmas concert at the forum. This was... excellent, Mr Sullivan still is full of anger in all the good ways.I'd lost my friend Lara in the crowd (which was full of familiar faces) but eventually found her and we withdrew after the concert to have a coffee and catch up.

Saturday was Reptile. This was very good -dance and catch up with lots of lovely folk. One of the highlights may have been a particular absurd conversation with friends on the outside terrace under the rain. Doesn't sound like a lot of fun but it was.

On Sunday, after my nightmare lesson, met with a few lovely people at the Landseeer for Sunday roast and conversation. This was just what I needed after a difficult, demanding lesson the morning after a very good night out.

On Monday there was the by now traditional Bleak Xmas dinner and carol sing-along at the Rochester Castle (the Roch, for the regulars) in Stoke Newington. This was a lovely meeting of peeps, some of whom I hadn't seen for years and some who I only see, these days, on that one occasion once a year. Thanks again [livejournal.com profile] chris_damage, [livejournal.com profile] andyknifton and [livejournal.com profile] suicideally for organising this.

And for something truly terrifying, the rendition (I use the word advisedly) that night of 'Silent Night': https://youtu.be/6f_yUg99z9o

Ah, I seem to have a problemette this coming Saturday. It is the summer BBQ (without the barbeque) at [livejournal.com profile] lovelybug and [livejournal.com profile] ciphergoth's, down in Saff London, which I'd said I would attend. It is also [livejournal.com profile] eline and [livejournal.com profile] pir's birthday BBQ (with BBQ) at the other end, in farthest Walthamstow. I would like to go to both but it looks pretty much impossible....

Played at [livejournal.com profile] kajia's fabulous Hallowe'en/birthday party last night -fantastic party, btw; there'll be photos. Chose to play three pieces from the Americas, a tango, Venezuelan Preludio Criollo and Californian Andrew York's 'Sunburst'. I had made the slight mistake of over-doing it slightly on the wine and felt I played a little too fast, a little too untidy in places but it seemed to go down very well. I am going to be playing a recital at her house on Thanksgiving, the admission will be £20 of which half (minus expenses, which will be minimal) will go to a local charity nominated on the night. If you might be interested in attending this do please drop me a line here or by email.
Still trying to shift the lurgy and waiting for friend at the other end of the world to come up on Skype (if she does). Week-end... has been good, although as already mentioned the lurgy refuses to go away. Mostly lessons, a sortie down Borough Market and then to Mestizo restaurant (having been so impressed by previous visit there with [livejournal.com profile] beric and his merry friends a week ago). This time I had to downgrade what we ate from 'fantastic' to 'very good' -but very good it still was, although the day time menu is much more limited and it was busy, with every suit in town seemingly having christmas dinner on that day. In the evening a couple of lessons. Didn't want to take the car . and got thoroughly drenched in rain. Three times. This may not have helped with the lurgy disposal endeavour.

Yesterday, more lessons and then, at the Big Red, the double birthday celebration for Amber (who used to have a livejournal as [livejournal.com profile] morriganhel ) and Jack El Señor (who afaik never had one). I'm becoming very much a non-fan of rock pubs, with their bad, expensive beer, bad food and indifferent attitude (as [livejournal.com profile] lproven remarked, they don't have to bother, they're 'already cool' so why would they) but last night was a blast, featuring everybody I ever knew in the alternative scene (this is not an original phrase, [livejournal.com profile] glamgothruthy got there first), a band that made me wonder about time travel and the year 1976 and a strip-tease by none less than Elvis Presley. Now I've seen everything.
Pictures I took at [livejournal.com profile] jillyfishie's fantastic party, 'American Halloween in London', in this Facebook album.

I seem to have been to four parties in the last couple of days -five, if I include the Gothsluts meet. This is quite remarkable considering that I had been (still am) rock bottom broke (temporarily, I hope!). Not drinking much (in some cases, at all) helps a lot in the circumstance. Also I owe [livejournal.com profile] ashmere a drink from last night at Shenanigans. Before that, [livejournal.com profile] jillyfishie's fabulous American Halloween in London at the Horatia -lots of fantastic costumes, there'll be pictures. Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] caveynik's Dead & Buried in Archway and Propagation at the Elixir, both very good in different ways.

Today was more sedate; some guitar practice, some reading and a few lessons I had to do. Now awaiting the hurricane ('oh no it's not a hurricane'). Not much sign of it just yet.

Half term week. Probably a few times to the gym, hopefully more guitar practice and sorting out a few things in that respect I want to do. One is outlining date and place for one or two small gigs with mostly my current programme although I will probably change a few of the pieces. I may elaborate on this topics at more length -probably for my own benefit only, I can't imagine that many who may read me here could possibly be interested in this, why I choose a piece and how I work on the music. It is kind of important to me, though.

Yesterday turned out a tiny bit more hectic than planned -but in a good way. After lessons and errands in the day, went to the Camden Brewdog for [livejournal.com profile] na11e1y and Felicia's (did she ever have an LJ?) birthday celebration. A small but perfectly formed affair, a dozen people around a table in the basement of the Brewdog, with reasonable pizza, fantastic beer and interesting conversation with some of the usual suspects plus some of Felicia's work-mates, who were nice interesting people. After that, they headed off to Big Red and I went to [livejournal.com profile] erming's birthday bash at the Elixir. This was a very different affair -the place was packed to the gunwales, with a band playing as I walked and a mountain of cat-food which was the
admission charge. A very good evening, although I didn't last the course -having been out dancing at Inferno the night before and having had a relatively busy day, I ended up bailing out home around half-midnight or so. A very good party, though. Good to see peeps I hadn't seen for a long while, like [livejournal.com profile] vexen and Sam.

Today I've mostly still been under the after-effects of the Tactical Nuclear Penguin -that's the 37% beer they had (oh, ok, _I_ had) at the Brewdog. Never a srop of incohol, etc.

* they also had a 41% beer, which they call Sink the Bismarck...

Week-end has been a bit more hectic than I anticipated, although mostly in a good way. Been to two house-warming parties yesterday, both very good and, I suppose, quite fitting that they should have taken place in the hottest day of the year. At opposite ends of London. Both fantastic parties.

Other things: a handful of lessons done, the Alternative Bring and Buy at the Dome in Tufnell Park, which was very good but for the unbelievable heat, the music festival later at the same venue, of which I missed half as I was away doing those lessons. In between all those things (apart from sleep), reading the Hunger Games, at the suggestion (and book loan) of [livejournal.com profile] robot_mel -I had kind of avoided the book just on the grounds of the reviews of the film of it and the advertising for that film that I'd seen -both terrible and had put me off it. I'm now engrossed in that world and I'm liking the book a lot but I still don't think I want to see the movie.

Right, beddy-byes now. Tomorrow should be a busy day..

Lovely time last night at [livejournal.com profile] frozen_amaranth Claire and Tim [livejournal.com profile] pretentia's wedding at the Finsbury Town Hall. Beautiful setting, lovely group of people, excellent performance by The Eden House. All in all an excellent night. Wishing all happiness in the future to Tim and Claire.
Nicking the subject title from [livejournal.com profile] myriadofsins's style as I was going to comment on the nice gathering at the Thursday gothsluts' meet for her birthday drinks last night. Good bunch of peeps, nice atmosphere at the Coronet, which is a Wetherspoon's pub so the food was completely forgettable but then, so was the price.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] alohura and [livejournal.com profile] voofy for their help and work!. Now looking forward to my sister + friend arriving in London on Monday. I may have found somewhere to stay, which is also good. Today, no lessons but I do have a lot of errands and things of the sort to get through. Tonight, the annual dinner of the u.c.s.m. Usenet UK mac group (yes, some people still use usenet, even if uk.people.gothic is all but dead in spite of the efforts by [livejournal.com profile] dmh ). Then, probably a drink at Departure for a bit.

Had a look at my user info page. Realised it has been accumulating cruft since 2003 (Fotopic? really? Disappeared years ago, as did iBlog and soon will all the .mac and MobileMe pages I keep in Apple's servers...). Started trying to clean it up a little but it'll take longer and being a little clearer in the head than I feel right now.

Apart from that, not a lot of note of late, apart from fabulous birthday/house-rewarming party at Maria, [livejournal.com profile] kajia's last Saturday. It's not everyday you get greeted at the door by Alien himself ... that nearly made something burst out of my chest.... pics in a FB album, here ....

Manuskript playing at the awesome Birthday Bash for Psyche and Purple Stuart, on Saturday 03-09-11

What lovely occasion yesterday at Dave and [livejournal.com profile] irisetta s wedding. Lots of lovely people, beautiful setting in a green and pleasant cornet of Kent. Torrential rain at first, but lovely sunshine in the afternoon after the service. Took too many pics (over 800) & I must have been more tipsy than I thought at the time! Most of the ones I took that I've seen are askew, under- or overexposed, have the wrong colour balance or are even right out of focus! So it may take a day or two to choose a few to put up somewhere.

The bus journey back was.. interesting. In a dark and stormy night, in a bus full of loud drunk people, in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. And playing Bizet and Handel. The driver had just one music CD, a compilation, I think, of last nights of the Proms, which he played non-stop on the atrocious on board stereo. Yep, Land of Hope and Glory in the middle of all that shouting. And Jerusalem. And Tchaikovski's 1812 overture, cannons and everything (as far as one could make out in the terrible sound system). I can imagine more surreal because I've lived it, but not ever in my time in Britain. Strange.

Relatively quiet week-end. Went to Departure at the Elixir on Friday, where I met a few people I hadn't seen for a while, including [livejournal.com profile] digitalangel who unfortunately wasn't feeling very well.

Yesterday, after just a couple of lessons, it was Cavey Nik and Consuelo's Zombie BBQ. Had a good time there, there'll be photos at some point through the usual channels. Was planning on going to Reptile but once I found myself home I found it impossible to get up again and leave the house...

Today has been a quiet affair; one lesson away, some reading, some guitar practice. Now about to have dinner; just grilled German bratwurst from Borough Market and boiled cassava (yuca, as we know it back in Vz). Multicultural flavio? Whatever, it works.

Yes, Borough Market, hmm.... there lies my ruin, undoubtedly... that, and having discovered (through a pupil) an excellent Italian online deli with creepy name.
