A friend has noticed that her PAYG Oyster card often runs down the credit she puts into it very very quickly and that reminded me that I very often have had  this happen to me -when you get through the gate the  machine charges you maximum amount for your journey; it is supposed to credit you back the difference when you check out at the destination but in my experience it very often doesn't. If you use Oyster PAYG (these days I tend to buy weekly tickets) it is a good idea to check at the ticket machines at your destination that you have not been overcharged. All too often the gate will beep and let you through but it won't have registered and you will be charged too much for your journey.

There was a short piece on London Tonight yesterday acknowledging this problem and saying that probably thousands of commuters were being charged up to double daily!

Was there? I may look it up online or something. I found this out months and months ago, when I noticed my credit on PAYG Oyster cards ran out so quickly. There's supposed to be a maximum charge per day but I'm not sure that is being enforced either, from my experience.
