Whatever. He (she? it?) probably doesn’t exist. I’m not sure how the message is supposed to be reassuring and that you can get on with enjoying your life, but, hey.
I saw that (online not IRL). I thought it was mildly funny, in a crotchety way. Should have included a phrase like "pish posh" or "twaddle and shennanigans" for maximum effect. Maybe I'm biased from having got fed up with religious propaganda.
At least it's better than the US where they have anti-atheist propaganda on random billboards around the country. Like the one I saw in June which was a huge photo of a kid pointing a gun at the camera with the slogan: "IF THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT GOD WHY SHOULD THEY CARE ABOUT YOU?"
My main objection, similarly, was that the message was rather twee and silly looking. I cannot see how it could have been otherwise, but that raises the inevitable question... what's the point in doing it.
I actually didn't know about the anti-Atheist propaganda you mention, but in that case can I be a little smug and happy about living in this island and not in the land of the free....
It's not the nice juicy sexy hellpanic messages I object to so much, that's kind of fun. It's more the constant implication that if you don't go to church it's because you're a bit of a thicko and it hasn't occurred to you--the self-congratulatory stuff...
Anyway, yeah, I hope the message gets plenty of publicity because it's at least giving the whole subject a good airing.
Richard Dawkins is involved. He's an egomaniac who appears to be trying to turn himself into a religious figure, almost attempting to become a messiah for the humanists. He should stick to genetics and shagging his students...and I'll sick to being a fuffy tree hugging Pagan.
I actually have a lot of time for Richard Dawkins in several respects: he's a very good popular science writer, at least when he's writing about the field he knows about; I find his books inspiring to me; they do transmit to me the amazingly intricate wonder of the natural world, without having to involve a supernatural invisible friend in the sky. On the other hand, the way he forces his views on religion -which I share, btw, 100% and I do think religion is a nefarious influence, on the whole- can be quite irritating -you're right, there would appear to be something of the religious fanatic in him.
My main problem with the bus campaign is that it looks silly and twee. I cannot see how it could be otherwise without offending people but then, why do it in the first place then.
Given the state of the world, I think I rather believe in the existence of a blind, idiot god in the bowels of the universe, that mean and stupid god of Lovecraft's, Azazoth...
