This is unusual - posted to YouTube a video of me playing that fugue by Bach in a little concert in July. Normally I would get a dozen or so views. This is a long piece (six and a half minutes) and quite ... involved. Certainly not pop music. And yet it's getting, thus far, 345 views. I reckon maybe YT is changing how they measure these things? What constitutes a 'view'? if you put up with two minutes of my playing? One minute? Just run it for a few seconds and keep scrolling? (the latter seems to be what happens in TikTok, where the same video that gets a dozen views on YT gets nine hundred-plus views). Can I really believe my people are waking up to the wonder that is Bach's music, even if it's played by me, warts and all?

No lessons at all today. Don't know what to do with so much freedom -and so little money. Even going out for a walk is full of temptations to spend.

I did go out for a walk locally, though; managed not to buy anything. Now back home listening to various versions of the USSR anthem because -oh, I don't know, just because. Watching the lists of communist leader names with the dates of birth and death and -most of them die in the mid 1930's. I think I will be reading Bulgakov's Master and Margarita again at some point for a taste of the atmosphere of Moscow in those days, safely tucked away in distance and time.

Probably going up Parliament Hill later. It is good to have Hampstead Heath so close, even if I don't go there as often as I plan to.
Two of my pupils are studying this piece so I thought I'd put up a version of me playing it.

Amazingly, somebody apparently claims copyright on this, even though the composer died one hundred and eighty years ago and this work is in countless public domain editions and arrangements. I contested the claim, interesting to see what happens next -whether some obscure multinational monster is going to crush me because of a little guitar study piece by a long dead composer.

At peace with the world, like this boy.
As always when I see one strange or disturbing side of human nature, immediately I feel kind of guilty and think 'gosh, I'm a tiny little bit impatient like that'. But, hey,...

Not sure why this made me think of [livejournal.com profile] mark13... :D

This is amazing, tovarich. [livejournal.com profile] mark13, did you say you thought as a child that Russia was ruled by the Gremlin?

nicked from [livejournal.com profile] _yungfuktoi_. Thanks, tovarich.
