Bug

Today I've seen the first cockroach in London in the 22 years I've lived here. On the floor of the tube carriage I'm in as I write jthis. About half the size of the ones we have back home. A kid was watching it with fascination as I kicked it away, as gently as I could -I, who must have killed tens of thousands of the things back in Vz. And have a certain degree of phobia about them. An old man produced a specs' case and trapped the thing in it, leaving at the next station with a sort of satisfiedl look in his face...

I too have a 'certain degree' of phobia about them. I did not need to hear this! *scrubs, but will never be clean again*

I don't have a problem with spiders, rats or snakes (within reason: I don't really want to share living space with the former, for instance) but do have problem with roaches. I cannot even think about them without squirming, which is perhaps a bit silly but there you go.

Could be worse. As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from a troubled dream....

Aargh!! Stoppit! I'm ok with everything except butterlies, moths and cockroaches. I can catch everything else to put outside but the above three - fugue state 200 yard crying dash knocking everything out of my way. I once threw a vaccum cleaner at a friend because of a butterfly.

I wonder where that came from - global warming or somesuch? We had masses in the flat I lived in in Paris. The trick seemed to be to scrupulously clean up crumbs and anything else. They disappeared when the food supply went.

The worst thing is the sound they make as they scurry away when you turn the light on.....

I wonder what the man with the glasses case was going to do with it!?

Yuk...I can't stand the things but I'd not say I have a phobia of them. (spiders on the other side...terrifying!) I've never seen one in London, I think the only place I've ever seen one was in Leicester and it was in my rabbit's hutch (it was a big hutch with outdoor run). That same house then had rats living under the greenhouse and several notabally sized spiders - and once we had an adder in the garden.
It was not a good house for phobias!

Ah no...there was also a slight infestation at my piano teacher's house. I must have repressed that memory!
