Nooo! That's too wrong! I actually like coffee enough to have two different types of espresso makers in my tiny tiny kitchen! I can handle my habit, though. I'm in control. I don't need more than (twitch) this many espressos first thing in the morning!
I wouldn't wish to get in a big discussion about this, but I drink hardly any coffee ever after mornings, so that's a strange kind of withdrawal if it takes effect 24 hours after last ingestion. I'm sure organism can process caffeine quicker than that. On the other hand, alcohol, any food you might like, almost any activity you might enjoy can be bad for you. Life is bad for you, it always results in death. But I quite like it. I wasn't enjoying smoking so I quit. I enjoy my coffee so I most likely won't. I don't like tea so I don't often go near it.
As I see it, it's mostly a matter of personal taste -unless caffeine happens to be of immediate threat to your life. I love coffee as others may (and I don't) love chocolate. Which also happens to be a drug.
its just the pleasure/pain principle does waking up at 5:30 give you more pain than the pleasure of coffee? Would you be willing just to experiment for a few weeks to see if lack of coffee makes waking earlier easier and more pleasurable?
Not really (sorry). What little coffee I drink (just those two or three espressos in the morning) I enjoy. There something of a ritual about them as well. I stay up late because I've always done and I also enjoy working late. That probably has more to do with early morning awfulness than the previous morning's coffee. I was quite willing to stop smoking as the cost/benefit thing -or pain/pleasure if you like, was becoming too much not worth the while. Are you asking me to give up something I enjoy in favour of something I resent doing but have to do because I have no choice?

That's the middle of the night, should e the time when you're going to bed back from a party, not getting up:D
(only kidding, we're all different of course:) I function better at night and hardly at all in the mornings and prefer to do stuff late.

However, my day-to-day usually involves me getting up at 0600, so I'm in no position to criticise, really.
