 Ok, so I had the tooth taken out in the end. I finally had the letter from UCLH telling me to phone to book appointment with the specialist. I did -they gave me one for the 12th of October.  I thought to myself... I cannot carry on like this for that long, so I had it extracted. I will still need to go to that appointment as there is a more serious underlaying problem.

Oh dear - hope the pain at least subsides. I had issues with one of my back teeth for ages and then just went to my GP to refer me "pronto" to th nearest dental hospital for extraction. I just had enough of the agony. Thank God on that one it has been quiet since, but maybe one day I win the lottery and can get the outstanding stuff done...
