I’ve received 21 messages on Facebook thus far today. Of these, two were real personal messages. The rest were general invites to go to this or that club or join this or that group. The noise to signal ratio seems to be increasing a lot on FB, at least for me. Hm.

I have to qualify that: not everybody that asks me to join their group or go to their club are spammers. In many cases I may actually be interested in attending their club night or whatever. But the constant bombardment does put me off. By the time I receive the fourth or fifth exhortation (alongside twenty odd other invites and requests) for something I begin to think, do I really want to go to it, or whatever....

The quality of the FB experience is largely determined by the people you friend and the groups you join - you can easily block persistent offenders.

I seem to have received a fair few emails from FaceBook two or three times in the last few days...

It's the group membership for clubs which kills email for me and I'm steadily culling them. It's a shame, as the group invites to events are useful, the group bulk mailing telling you to go to event you already have accepted/maybed/rejected are not.

I must admit, I'm seriously tempted to block certain individuals who repeatedly send out mass invites. I don't have much faith in FB ever fixing it, and, if I can have the time and patience to carefully pick who I send invites to my events too, then they can have the decency to do so as well.
