Never made it to Revenge. Had thought of going to Vagabonds first and then Revenge but it would have been too much expense and an unknown quantity, although it did sound like I could like it. Vagabonds was quite good, apart from the awkward moment as I was leaving when I offered a lift to somebody who seemed to be quite offended by this. A bit as if what I was saying and what they were hearing were quite different things. There are many things in the world and in people that I do not understand.

Today, a couple of lessons in the afternoon and BBQ at [livejournal.com profile] short_mort and [livejournal.com profile] strawberryfrog. Two small guitar practice projects to have a little look at: looking at the arpeggios in Bach's Chaconne and seeing what I want (and my fingers are able) to make of them. And starting to study again a piece that a friend, Walter Fabeck, wrote for me some years ago. Couple of small things to remind myself why I'm living this life like this and also to take my mind off the flat continuing story.

[livejournal.com profile] aliasrob and [livejournal.com profile] scarynic!!

I may have missed some peeps' birthdays (not that I think they're waiting there with bated breath to read my b'day greetings, but still) given that my life seems to have been dominated of late by the flat quest -and given that I'm on my third part-buy mortgage application, etc maybe it is not too far-fetched to call it 'quest'. Mad times. I would easily have got a credit ten times as big two years ago, today it seems nigh on impossible.

Lunch today with [livejournal.com profile] combat_kitten, which was nice. It was very good, that is, to see her. Next time I'll try and avoid the chili con cardboard.

One insignificant little problem that I've just thought about: I'd like to go to the cinema more often, I miss so many movies I would like to see, but I can't really bring myself to go to the cinema on my own and I also have such weird working hours (most week-end evenings, for instance, whilst I have a lot of free time in the daytime). Not sure what I'm after with this, but would like to go to see some movies -not on my own and, b, obviously, at times I can actually go without cancelling lessons -any ideas welcome.
In the school in Watford. Have been here nearly two hours and still no pupil in sight and a couple of warnings about others not going to be around. Falling asleep, too: didn't get much sleep last night. For a while tried to practise guitar -or, rather, read the Chaconne by Bach, which I haven't played in about 20 years, and discovering that I still remember many of the things I did in that piece but in many cases I no longer like what I used to do so I would have to rethink how to play them.

If only there was a quiet corner where I could close my eyes for ten minutes...

Week-end was generally good, although I seem to have missed on a lot of stuff happening that I would have liked to attend. Mostly just went to [livejournal.com profile] aliasrob’s birthday party on Saturday evening at the Resistance gallery -which was a blast. There will be a few pictures on my facebook, and there is now a little film clip of Adenoids playing the Kitty Song.

Today, a few lessons and the tense wait for the next round of impossible stuff from the bank -last attempt. This probably sounds very cryptic, but it feels even more so. The way banks, property developers, mortgage vendors, lawyers and the like deal with the world is, to me, arcane and incomprehensible. I’d rather make music, but this has to be dealt with. It’ll be good if I can pull it, but it looks nigh on impossible now, no longer sure even why I keep trying.

I still have a Dreamwidth invite code, if anyone wants it.

Still waiting for the story of the flat to unfold. Every time there appears to be a new, insurmountable obstacle... tomorrow should have been the day of the signing, no sign of that yet even in the distance.... we'll see what happens...

Hope it's a good one!

Also Happy Belated to anyone I've forgotten to say happy birthday to, with the stress of the last few weeks. Hope there was much cake and pints.

In other news, still waiting for the story of the flat to unfold. Every time there appears to be a new, insurmountable obstacle... we'll see what happens...

I see on the BBC News channel that it is World Knitting in Public Day, with some women who call themselves something like guerrilla knitters wrapping posts and benches (in Covent Garden) with knitted wool. Change the world through knitting? The world certainly looks different from Hampstead, or wherever ....

That, and the Iranian elections. I just don't even want to go there. They look so surprised that Mr Al-Med -oh, ok, can't spell or pronounce his name, sorry, has been declared the winner by a relatively large margin less than 24 hours after the poll. He might well have won for real, for many reasons, but it does look dodgy from here.

In the meantime, life in the flavworld still on hold, waiting for things to happen. By Monday or Tuesday I should know. Hopefully. Today, a couple of lessons, some guitar practice and probably Last Days of Decadence in the evening.

Back from school in Watford. Much shorter working day, this last half-term: all (well, the few I have in these categories) pupils doing year 11, GCSE, etc are away on 'study leave'. Some others are doing various exams or away on trips. Curiously, I find it difficult to use the time I spend waiting for pupils who end up not turning up, productively. A little bit of guitar practice, another exchange of emails with the people selling the flat, or brokering (is that the word) the mortgage, or the lawyers, etc. and I'm in that peculiar state where I can only wait for the next bit of news about how things are doing and everything else is just exasperating. How little patience I have when it comes to anything other than teaching the guitar.

Good to see [livejournal.com profile] miss_amethyst last night at the Big Red. Briefly, as I had to come back for lessons here. Oh well.

I must be getting old, finally. It is hardly 10 o’clock and I’m considering going to bed. Yes, well; I’m not tired, but I have to get up at 6:00 am to be on the road at 7:00 and this is getting harder and harder every week...

So let us not talk falsely now
The hour’s getting late..

[ Edit ] Not sure why but it is a slow, contemplative night here. Third G&T, then pillow, methinks.

Lunch at The Vine on Highgate Road for Tania's birthday. Ate too much and spent too much. Oh well. Spending the rest of the afternoon in a semi-asleep haze, not what you need when you have to be awake for a few lessons. Also had to share the road on the way back with a few hundred boisterous drunk Australians dressed in day-glo green leggings and tutus. (and that was just the boys), coming out of the Forum. .

... I’m still busy around the house doing some washing, making bread (both by machine), pottering about doing various other things and having spent the evening sorting through many hundreds of data CDs (mostly accumulated back-ups of many years), audio and video tapes and paperwork, throwing stuff away and shredding paper (the latter which is a curiously satisfying activity).

Should stop all that now, have to get up early... good night....

No lessons today. A few errands and phone calls to make and that is that... earlier ran into Tim Secret and went to Renoir Café; it was very good to catch up with him. Probably bored him to death with the account of my recent flat seeking adventures.

Need to buy a cheap suit as I've destroyed my current one. No, really: I've long decided that it is not a good idea to go to those schools dressed as little (old) goth boy, or whatever they may think I normally dress at. So it is jacket and tie, white shirt, shoes. No Camden boots, no tight black jeans for that.

Not entirely sure about the utility and usefulness of keeping all these things, Dreamwidth, Twitter (especially this one I'm not too sure about just yet), two livejournals, two myspace accounts (which I hardly ever use), Facebook (which I do find myself using quite a lot). Every day I get spam invites from people to things like Linkedin and a million other schemes like that. Life is too short. I already hardly ever use Flickr, Picasa, Fotopic, iblog, the two blogs I keep in Blogspot, &cc ...

... have a lovely day!

ION, very tired. Slept three hours last night. Yesterday's meeting with financial person seemed productive -encouraging, at any rate. Viewed an impossibly tiny tiny flat but exactly where I would want to live. Dilemmas, dilemmas...

Much fun at Reptile last night. A good night. Today I may have finally caught up with all that lost sleep -just got up. Lessons in a short while. Tomorrow, interview with an (allegedly) IFA and viewing a flat. Means nothing but at least it makes me feel like I'm doing something about the stuff that needs doing. In matters of public health, I suppose I'll follow the advice heard on Radio 4 and, when in crowded public transport, try to avoid alarming people and only cough into my sombrero.

ION, Happy Birthday, [profile] krius and [profile] shadowphiar!! Have an excellent one!

.. Never made it Departure , in the end. Will be going next month, I hope.

Fuze was good, I had a lot of fun (if not as busy as I would have anticipated), but three days in a row of getting up early after three-four hours' sleep finally caught up with me and I came back at around 2:15, 2:30 am or so.

Now have finished breakfast (arepas, miliky coffee) and on my way to the first of two lessons. Then a BBQ for a friend's birthday, then, much later on, probably Reptile.

Needed at least three hours' more sleep, methinks....
I read anita’s account of the Autumn arriving to her part of the world while I run around London under murky skies, from one lesson to another. Or, like today, from one lesson to a cancellation, to another.

And then, a little later, another lesson away. After that, a pint with friends at the Big Red...

-tap tap- .. one, two, one two.. .Is this thing working?

Updating this (for Dreamwidth, again the deadly sin of cross-posting.. ) from MacJournal gave me at first some very strange results.. Had to figure out by myself how to do it, there’s nowhere in DW’s pages telling you how to do it. Must keep trying...
