A lot of my FB friends seem to be 'moving' to Vero, the social media app, so I joined it yesterday. First impressions? I hate it. Like Whatsapp, it is tied to your phone, you cannot even use it on a tablet, def. not on a computer. This already is a no-no for me. Instagram and WA are also tied to your phone (which I hate, did I mention?) but at least there are work-arounds so you can use them on other devices and your computer. It is supposed to be ad-free and prioritising privacy -we'll see about that, the first thing it asks you to do is to allow it to load your contacts onto its servers. No, no, sorry no. I know what the rationale for this is but still won't do that. Also when you go to update it gives you the options of putting a picture, reviewing a book or a movie and put an internet link. They seem to be taking after Instagram with this, but again this limited range of options does not appeal to me that much. We'll see how it goes but so far I'm not that impressed. And the paths of the internet are littered with the corpses of FB and twitter killers, like App.net, Ello and Diaspora (which seemed like quite good a proposition but didn't get anywhere much), we'll see how this one fares.
