so far today...

... not a lot. One lesson cancelled. One lunch with friends cancelled (they had last minute work appearing and they're skint. I know the feeling). No answer yet from the flat vendors/housing association/whatever they are, on whether I have a flat or not (I can't believe how long drawn, painful, complicated and absurd this whole saga has been). Onwards and slightly upwards...

[ Edit ] Make that two lessons cancelled.

I get annoyed with those little buggers every time you write that someone cancelled a lesson with you. Maybe you should think about charging in advance? One pays for one lesson ahead, if next lesson is cancelled at the eleventh hour- they pay for wasting your time.
I'm in a hurry now, going to Poland this evening xx

Ooh, have a good trip!

I already charge in advance. Or try to -sometimes you have to take what work comes your way -and you also know that those who object to paying in advance are going to be a pain in the neck in other ways, but sometimes it can't be helped. In this case, both lessons will be paid, but since without them I don't have a working day and could have gone away somewhere or otherwise planned my day differently, it's still a pain.

Sounds as successful as my day- off ill with a throat infection :o(

I agree about charging in advance (maybe even just a deposit if you feel that would be better and less likely to put people off?) and if they don't cancel by however long before the time then they lose the money. But I think it should be a universal rule, not just for those who have cancelled once already. It's what the driving schools do.

I do charge in advance, practically all music teachers do. I charge lessons in blocks of four in advance, I also warn them that lessons cancelled last minute should be paid for, but sometimes this is difficult to enforce.

Ah right, buggers!
