More people leaving LJ for DW. And some probably will leave LJ and never quite make it to DW, not needing this livejournal thing of an app that is halfway between blogging and social networking. I hope enough of the people in my f-list do that the conversation may continue in a place different to Facebook, which had still happened in LJ in spite of the FB steamroller and the failure of all the FB alternatives from Diaspora to Ello.

This, btw, is crossposted to LJ from Dreamwidth.
Maybe I should use this Dreamwidth account a bit more, given all the vagaries regarding the situation and future of Livejournal. It's

ION, finally saw a bit of that press conference yesterday. Only a bit because I found it both cringe-worthy and blood chilling.

One thing I still miss on FB is the ability on Livejournal to post a different user pic for each post. Worse, if I repost an LJ entry to FB it loses that user pic. Oh well. I kind of still prefer LJ, even though FB is sort of more useful these days.

BTW, in case you just landed here:

You could also check out my Soundcloud pages -I have two, one with some little examples of my classical guitar playing, like this Prelude by Ponce. Nobody ever follows internet links unless they are Dailymash ones, but there you go. You could have a listen. I also have another SoundCloud page there with more electronic/experimental/electric guitar doodling. Do go have a look.

Earlier post by friend in FB reminded me. Yes, Livejournal still is here, still works, not as busy but you don't see the sort of filler (memes and quizzes of the "which superhero/film star/small furry animal are you" kind, etc) and 'inspirational' posts that you used to, as it all has moved to FB. We won't talk about Ello.

And I'm still here on livejournal, so I suppose it couldn't all be perfect, but hey :)

Interesting thing to see, the flock returning (however briefly it may be) to Livejournal today. I never left, be it that I only post a couple of times a week. And a few people never left; there is always something to read in my flist page, although these days I don't have to scroll for page after page to catch up with everybody.

Funny thing is, for me, that I always go on about how FB stimulates a kind of shallow, superficial way of communication, but I never really go deep into what I think or feel there or here; most certainly won't post very personal stuff in a public space on the internet. That sort of thing often comes back to bite you. Facebook is a very useful tool, also, mostly with the event system and the photo tagging. And yet it is true: you can go at more length here and feel you're having a conversation in a way that FB doesn't quite.

It was good to see those old faces (oh, ok; I'm twenty years older than the oldest of those faces, but never mind) around here today, while I was rushing around or practising scales or in brief spaces between lessons -oh, look, I hadn't seem him/her here for at least five years. Never mind that I see them on FB or twitter nearly every day (except in the two cases of people who still keep me in their friends list here but have defacebooked me). It kind of isn't the same. Hello, welcome back, however briefly.

Funny how you see a flurry of activity here all of a sudden ('here' meaning in my flist page), followed by the usual quieting down to the 15 or 20 regulars (of my flist of about 360). I do have to say that LJ is much less annoying now that there is practically no drama, no silly posts (they're not real 'memes', are they, not in the sense that Dawkins seems to have been thinking of when he coined the term) on the lines of 'which super-hero am I?', etc and still gives you an insight into the lives and minds of friends in a way that FB cannot do -or perhaps can but doesn't. It would be good if some of those who make cameo appearances did stay, given that they're people I like and see rather little of these days, but there you go.

Busy busy day in my livejournal's friends' page, busiest for a couple of years. Quite a few peeps (some who I hadn't seen here for quite a while) had something to say today -and all of it interesting to read (interesting for me to read, maybe I should say -can't speak for anybody else!).

There also were a couple of posts in uk.people.gothic! Is it 2002 again, perchance?

Hmm... should I bother with Dreamwidth at all? There's practically nobody who posts here who doesn't also at least repost in Livejournal. I follow only one person here who isn't in my livejournal and she's now unfollowed me (I think I prefer the Twitter terminology rather than the rather charged 'friending' and 'unfriending' of LJ, DW and FB). And livejournal is enough of a minority interest, although I seem to have become a specialist in those, being a Venezuelan, classical guitarist, hanging out with goths, being a Mac user for 20 years (although that is much less of a minority interest now but still attracts the bile from the Apple haters) etc.

Is there a compelling reason for using Dreamwidth instead of/in addition to Livejournal?

Had a look at my user info page. Realised it has been accumulating cruft since 2003 (Fotopic? really? Disappeared years ago, as did iBlog and soon will all the .mac and MobileMe pages I keep in Apple's servers...). Started trying to clean it up a little but it'll take longer and being a little clearer in the head than I feel right now.

Apart from that, not a lot of note of late, apart from fabulous birthday/house-rewarming party at Maria, [livejournal.com profile] kajia's last Saturday. It's not everyday you get greeted at the door by Alien himself ... that nearly made something burst out of my chest.... pics in a FB album, here ....

Not sure anymore why I keep two on line journals like this, one here and one in Livejournal -worse, I have a third livejournal in Spanish....  I started this DW one as a sort of back-up for livejournal at the point when things were taking a sort of unpleasant turn in LJ.  Not sure they have taken any turn for the better! but up to a point, you have to live with these things -or indeed move away from them. Lj evil is nothing compared to Facebook evil -and Facebook seems to encourage a sort of shallow, superficial level of communication that leaves  the old LJ memes. standing. And yet it has its uses and can be very useful. That, alas, is the conundrum of modern life.  With every step forward we gain much, we lose much and moving back becomes more and more just an illusion...

I was wondering whether to differentiate this DW and my LJ in some way, but maybe this would just be another 'thing to do', one more little thing calling for my time and my energy at a point when I feel I have so little of either....

... quiet around here, isn't it...

Dreamwidth. I'm still trying to dream up how to use it in a way that differentiates it from livejournal.  There isn't much posting here that doesn't get re-posted to LJ (including my own but, of course, not this particular one). No incentive really to use it more or in a way that is not just a backup for livejournal. Any ideas?

Not sure whether I will also open a Spanish language one as I did on LJ; maybe would try to filter Spanish language content instead. We'll see.

There's a couple of Spanish speakers (or aspiring Spanish speakers) here who might not be aware that I keep a livejournal in Spanish at [livejournal.com profile] flavio_matani (and there is one who is aware but she doesn't want to know:P). So this is a reminder, just in case it is of interest to anybody. I sometimes update in one journal but forget to translate or do the equivalent update on the other...

my crimbo update there -in Spanish.
